Councillors

Burton United Football Club : Quarterly Financial Review : Personnel Committee
Having been born in the village and coming from a family that goes back five generations living in the village, I like to be involved within the community. I belong to the Heritage Group and help in organising their events. I have experience in the retail sector and was a special constable for Humberside police for six years, so am happy to communicate with people on all levels.
Quarterly Financial Review
I have previous council experience as a Town Councillor and for two years was the Town Mayor. In that role, I chaired the Neighbourhood Plan Working Group and was an active member of the events committee which included organizing Remembrance Sunday events, bonfire night and Christmas lights switch on. I helped to establish a successful youth group and have raised money for Leukaemia Care by running the London Marathon. Having a young family, I wish to play my part to ensure that the community remains a nice, safe place for my child to grow up in.

I joined the Parish Council to help the members to maintain and manage the parish and to help them represent the people who live in and use the villages. Like many people, I have concerns about the wharf and its effect that it is having on the residents, as well as the parking on Normanby Road/The Avenue during school dropping off and pick up times. I am now a retired Electrical Engineer having served fourteen years in the Royal Navy, where I enjoyed seeing those I trained begin to understand what they were doing and how to do the tasks required.

I grew up in Burton upon Stather, moved away for university, and then moved back over twenty years ago to bring up my children here. My professional background is as a social worker. As a parent, I am particularly interested in the young people in our community and whilst on the Parish Council, I have been involved in instigating a Youth Council which has unfortunately now been disbanded. However, if there was interest I would be keen to get it going again, since I believe it is important for the young people in the community to have a voice, helping to instil in them a sense of ownership and pride in the Parish. I try my best to serve my community and listen to all points of view in order to best represent our the residents of our parish.

As a Parish Councillor for Burton upon Stather, I serve with a strong commitment to civic transparency, practical progress, and thoughtful community advocacy. My role bridges strategic foresight with everyday responsibility — whether responding to resident concerns, supporting local services, or championing sustainable growth.

Rooted in a deep respect for our village’s heritage and future, I focus on:

  • Responsible Stewardship: Prioritising local infrastructure, environmental resilience, and maintenance of public spaces that reflect community pride.
  • Community Voice: Actively engaging with residents to ensure decisions reflect local needs, concerns, and aspirations — not imposed assumptions.
  • Accountable Governance: Applying clarity, fairness, and open communication in all council processes and planning matters.
  • Digital Enablement: Bringing a modern lens to communications, information sharing, and public accessibility.

With a background in systems thinking and ethical AI development, I bring analytical precision and solution-focused pragmatism to council deliberations — always rooted in service, not self-interest.

Whilst working for the NHS, I have experience in working with other people and making sure all work is to a high standard. I enjoy living in the parish and wish to keep the standards in the community as high as they are currently. Due to my interest in history, I would like to make sure that the history of Burton is kept alive and that items like the gun mountings are preserved for future generations.

I joined the Parish Council to help to link the work of the church with the parish and vice versa. I have experience in being involved with various church councils, up to Diocesan level, as well as have been the Chair of Governors for a primary school. I try to help the parish council to be proactive rather than reactive in recognising and serving the needs of the residents.
Vice Chair of the Council : Roxby Landfill
Over the years, I have seen how decisions made in council chambers affected real people, sometimes helping, sometimes harming those who had no seat at the table. I am driven by the conviction that inclusion, equity, and equality aren't just noble ideals, they are the foundation for effective governance and a fair community. I want to ensure marginalized voices are actively sought and heard, that proposals are examined through the lens of fairness. My motivation stems from a simple truth: we all flourish when every person feels valued and empowered to shape their community's future. That's why I chose to serve.
Personnel Committee Chair : ERNLLCA District Meetings : NLC Town & Parish Liaison : Village Hall
I am a deeply committed resident of Burton Upon Stather, representing the sixth generation of my family to call the village home. My strong connection to the community is evident in my extensive volunteer work with various local committees and my regular efforts to keep the village tidy through litter picks. I have over 25 years as an executive assistant in further education, a role that has equipped me with invaluable experience in administration, organisation, and support.
